I've always longed for the escape that comes with a good book. Being transported into another world, valiant fights of good versus evil, and strong characters - particularly female leads - have drawn me to fantasy and science fiction novels since I was a teenager.

As I approached the big 4-0, I realized that I wanted to do more than just read this work - I wanted to create it, too. I promptly enrolled in the Book Incubator, which gave me the tools I needed to draft and revise my first novel - The Shadows That Veil the Stars.

​Village by village, Stallantos is being turned to ash. But who is behind it, and what do they want? When 26-year-old Kiera Selte wakes up after a devastating fire at the print shop where she works, gratitude for being alive quickly morphs into dread after being wrongly accused of treachery to the crown. Forced into military training, she learns a shocking truth: her latent powers, if she can summon them, may be key to combating the dark force threatening Stallantos. As the body count rises and prophecies spell doom approaching, Kiera must find a way to help before there is nothing left to save—and decide what price she is willing to pay for justice and equality.
