I've always longed for the escape that comes with a good book. Being transported into another world, valiant fights of good versus evil, and strong characters - particularly female leads - have drawn me to fantasy and science fiction novels since I was a teenager.

As I approached the big 4-0, I realized that I wanted to do more than just read this work - I wanted to create it, too. I promptly enrolled in the Book Incubator, which gave me the tools I needed to draft and revise my first novel - The Shadows that Veil the Stars.

When blood magic is used for the first time in millennia, and villagers start to disappear after their homes are burned to the ground, Kiera is determined to help find the culprit. As the line between right and wrong begins to blur, Kiera struggles with reconciling her head and her heart, and we ultimately ask: what lengths are too far when it comes to changing the world for the better?
